1. Rural Electrification Marker
Inscription. In 1936 seventy-five percent of Pennsylvania farms had no electric service. During the next five years, with Federal support, 14 consumer-owned cooperatives were formed in this State. Southwest Central Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation, serving users in seven counties, was incorporated March 4, 1937.
 
Erected 1987 by Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission.
 
Location. 40° 37.971′ N, 79° 7.121′ W. Marker is near Indiana, Pennsylvania, in Indiana County. Marker is on Airport Road (Pennsylvania Route 1006) 0.2 miles east of Pennsylvania Route 286, on the left when traveling east. Touch for map.
