Inscription.
Believed to have been erected before 1708
Was used for many years as the home of
the Provincial Governors of New York
On this island was organized on
December 25, 1757
the Loyal American Regiment 60th Foot
commanded by
Lord Jeffrey Amherst
This Regiment subsequently became the present King’s Royal Rifle Corps of the British Army.

 
Erected 1951 by The Society of Colonial Wars in the State of New York.
