1. Canal Basin Marker
Inscription. Here at Hollidaysburg the 127-mile Juniata Division of the Pennsylvania Canal met the Allegheny Portage Railroad, which extended 36 miles west over the mountain to Johnstown. The Juniata Division was opened in 1832, the railroad in March 1834. Regarded as an engineering marvel, the railroad climbed 1398 feet in ten miles.
 
Erected 1982 by Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission.
 
Location. 40° 25.66′ N, 78° 23.796′ W. Marker is in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, in Blair County. Marker is at the intersection of Broad Street (U.S. 22) and South Juniata Street, on the right when traveling west on Broad Street. Touch for map. Located across US 22 from Canal Basin Park. Marker is in this post office area: Hollidaysburg PA 16648, United States of America.
