Inscription. Passed his schoolboy days in Mercersburg, became a lawyer, member of the legislature and of Congress, Minister to Russia, member of the United States Senate, Secretary of State, Minister to Great Britian and fifteenth President of the United States.

His personal integrity and honorable career are worthy of emulation by all true Americans.
