Inscription. Col. William H. Chase, Construction Engineer, Pensacola Harbor defenses (Forts McRee, Barrancas, Redoubt, Pickens 1828-54). Captured Navy Yard for Florida Forces, January 12, 1861. Ordered to West Point 1856, resigned Commission to become President Alabama-Florida R.R. Appointed Major-General Commanding State Troops, Pensacola 1861. Died at home SW Corner Palafox and Wright Streets, February 8, 1870. Chase Street commemorates his name.

Erected 1956 by the Municipal Advertising Board.
