1. Freedom Road Marker
Inscription. The route traveled by the 52 American hostages from Stewart Airport to West Point after their release from captivity in Iran January 25, 1981.
 
Erected by State of New York.
 
Location. 41° 28.25′ N, 74° 3.665′ W. Marker is in New Windsor, New York, in Orange County. Marker is on Temple Hill Road (New York State Route 300), on the left when traveling north. Touch for map. Marker is across from the entrance to the New Windsor Cantonment State Historic Site. Marker is in this post office area: New Windsor NY 12553, United States of America.

52 Americans, who were held hostage by Iranian militants for 444 days from November 4, 1979 to January 20, 1981, passed this point when they finally returned home to America.
