L'Enclos et la Lieutenance Le quartier de l'Enclos, correspond à l'ancienne zone fortifiée, ce quartier central était donc entouré de remparts jusqu'à l fin du XVII^ème siècle. Dernier vestige des fortifications encore visible, à l'extrémité du Vieux Bassin, la Lieutenance. Véritable témoin de l'histoire de la cité, elle est l'ancienne Porte de Caen qui contrôlait l'accès au quartier de l'Enclos.

Au XVII^ème siècle elle fut remainiée et devint le logement du Lieutenant du Roi dont elle tire son nom actuel.

The Enclos is the former medieval forteress of Honfleur. This central area was surrounded by walls until the end of the 17th century. The last remains of the fortification is the Lieutenance, the former Gate of Caen which used to control the entrance inside the Enclos. In the 17th century it became the house of the King's Lieutenant.

At the beginning of the 100 years War, the King Charles V transformed the port into a military forteress because of its location inside the estuary.
Le Vieux Bassin Le Vieux Bassin fut créé par ordre de Colbert, en 1681, en remplacement de l'ancien "havre du dedans", qui était beaucoup plus étroit et se situait à l'intérieur des fortifications. De nos jours, Honfleur accueille ses plaisanciers au cœur même de son Vieux Bassin. En bordure du quai Sainte Catherine, les hautes et êtroites maisons essentêes d'ardoises datent des XVII^ème et XVIII^ème siècles. Elles offrent un décor exceptionnel aux visiteurs en escale dans la petite cité maritme.

The Old dock was built thanks to Colbert (King Louis the 14^th's minister) in 1681 to replace the previous anchorage place which was narrower and inside the fortifications. Nowadays it's the marina. Along the Quai Sainte-Catherine, the tall houses dates from the 17^th and 18^th centuries. It forms a very picturesque scenery.
