Inscription. In honor of the men of Manchester who gave their services in the War which saved the Union and secured equal rights for all under the Constitution. This monument built by a grateful city 1878

Additional inscription: Et Decorium est pro Patria mori Dulce. (It is sweet and glorious to die for one's country)
