James Hall & Co. Ontario Glove Works 1865 - 1917
Brockville Historic Area: The Brock Trail
— Région Historique : La Piste de Brockville —
Founded in 1865, the James Hall & Co. Glove Works operated on this site until about 1917. By 1898, it was the largest company making gloves and mitts in Canada. Owned and operated by John MacLaren and later his cousin, William C. MacLaren, the factory covered an area of 5 acres and employed over 100 people year-round. A large fire on December 20, 1951, while operating as Shorey's Glove Works, left the remaining buildings in ruin, except for the manager's house and office on Broad St., at the north end of the property.
Erected 2018 by City of Brockville, Heritage Brockville, and City of Brockville Legacy Fund.
