Inscription.
The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Company 765 located in the city of Mohall, North Dakota.

This plaque has been placed as a reminder to the future generation that invaluable service was rendered by many young men in preserving and maintaining the national wildlife areas of this country.

CCC Camp 765 was established on July 15, 1935 at Mohall, North Dakota. Work then began on the upper Souris Refuge. Their accomplishments were the building of 54 miles of fence, construction and graveling 15 miles of truck trails, clearing sixty acres of pond sites, moving 51,000 yards of materials, rip rap the highway crossing the reservoir, the construction of eight large nesting islands and the razing of seventy eight farm buildings. This refuge is one of the super refuges of the United States and is, undoubtedly, the finest of the nesting areas in the country.

CCC nation wide helped feed their families by serving their country for a dollar a day. Called the “unknown heroes,” the Civilian Conservation Corps reclaimed and beautified the land leaving their work as a legacy to past, present and future generations of America.

The Civilian Conservation Corps of the ‘30s and ‘40s was truly a ‘live saver’ for this country, by relieving poverty, providing lasting conservation projects and developing hard working, disciplined

men who were devoted to the betterment of America. This heritage of strength has become a part of all who direct descendants of persons who served in this valuable program and has created great pride in related to a hero who served their country in this matter.

Upper Souris National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1935 as a refuge and breeding ground for migratory birds and other wildlife. The refuge straddles 35 miles of the picturesque Souris River valley in northern North Dakota. The Souris River basin figures prominently in the cultural and natural history of the North American mid-continent plains and prairies.
