54th Virginia, - Lieutenant Colonel John J. Wade.
This Brigade being formed on the left of Kelly's on the opposite side of this ridge, swung to the right across the ridge into this ravine, and co-operating with Kelly then opposite to its line closed up on the knoll to the right of this point and captured most of the 21st and 89th Ohio and 22d Michigan. These three regiments were serving temporarily on the left of Whitaker's Brigade.
The movement of Trigg's Brigade to capture these troops was led by Captain J.C.S. Blackburn of the Division staff, and about the time this had been accomplished, the Brigade received a volley on its left flank from the right of Van Derveer's Brigade of Brannan's Division, ending the battle on this ground at 7:15 p.m. Strength in action 1091. Casualties: killed 46; wounded 231; missing 5; total 282. Percentage of loss 25.85.
