Third Order Church is from 1755, it is the second oldest religious building after the Parish of Nuestra Señora de los Dolores (Our Lady of Sorrows). Its construction styles are on the exterior a sober baroque and neoclassical on its inside.

When the Dolores’ priest was captured, on September 22nd, 1810 the first notice of the Independent Revolution that started in Dolores was received by Félix Maria Calleja in San Luis Potosí who then proceeded to take urgent measures. Without waiting for the king’s orders he started an army and offered the viceroy Francise Javier Venegas to meet with Manuel Flon, Count of Cadena who was also organizing an army in Querétaro to hunt the insurgent priest.

On October 28th, 1810, the streets and neighbors of Dolores are unusual spectators of a war. Calleja is uphill with a cavalry of three thousand men, an infantry of six hundred and three cannons. Manuel Flon puts together a more or less army. They join forces, naming the whole: Ejército de Operaciones sobre los Insurgentes (Operational Army over the Insurgents) with seven thousand men and eight cannons. Calleja becomes commander in chief, which he was entitled to, and secondly the Count of Cadena.

They rampaged and looted Hidalgo’s house, so they did with the rest of the houses and the inhabitants of the town.

One night before leaving the town, Félix María Calleja

goes into the church and offers the Virgin of the Purísima Concepción (Virgin of the Holy Conception) his baton, promising her to come back for it after capturing the Priest of Dolores. Afterwards Calleja was named the 60th Viceroy of the New Spain, ruling from 1814 to September 20th, 1816.

The festivity of the Virgin of the Purísima e Inmaculada Concepción takes place on December 8th. The Inmaculate Conception of Virgin Mary's dogma was published by Pope Pius IX in 1854, nevertheless, since the IX century this cult was worshiped in Europe. In 1253 it was adopted by all the Franciscan priests who became its maximum defenders.

The Franciscan Third Order, the seculars, celebrate Saint Francis of Assisi on his day, October 4th.
