Founded in 1634, St. Mary's City is the fourth oldest permanent English colony in North America, and was the capital of Maryland until 1695. A city whose remains were largely undisturbed by subsequent development, this National Historic Landmark offers an unparalleled look at early America. Archaeological excavations began in this area in the 1930s and continue today. Neighboring Historic St. Mary's City is a living history museum and archaeological treasure. Teddy promotes junior and high school sailing, leadership training, as well as Special Olympics and recreational sailing through the South Carolina Maritime Foundation and the Charleston Community Sailing Foundation.
