The Beginning
Photographed By Devry Becker Jones (CC0), September 15, 2019
With the influx of people after the Louisiana Purchase, a succession of treaties began in 1808 driving the Osage off their land. The government instructed them to cede their land and to provide for their families by farming, not hunting. By 1825, their only holding was a small land strip in southeastern Kansas.
