1. Wheeling Hospital Marker
Inscription. Oldest hospital in the state, chartered March 12, 1850, thru efforts of Dr. S. P. Hullihen and Bishop R. V. Whelan. In 1853, located at 110, 15th St. by Sisters of Saint Joseph. Moved to this site in 1856. As Union Army hospital during Civil War, Nov. 1864 - July 1865, treated soldiers North & South. Later served as U.S. Marine hospital and sponsored nursing school. Moved to current Medical Park site in 1975.
 
Erected 2004 by West Virginia Division of Archives and History.
