To honour the memory of all who died, suffered and emigrated due to the Great Famine of 1845 - 1850, and the victims of all famines., The Memorial was unveiled by the President of Ireland, Mary Robinson, on 20 July 1997., I gcuimhna ar an daoine go léir a fuair bás, a d'fhulaing agus a chuaigh ar an imirce de dheasca Ghorta Mór 1845 - 1850 agus ar gach uile dhuine i ngátar de dheasca gorta., Uachtarán na nÉireann, Máire Mhic Róibín, a nocht an Cuimhneachán ar an 20 lúil, 1997, Coffin Ship / Cónra - Long John Behan, R.H.A. / Séan O Beacháin, R.H.A., Commissioned by Minister of State Avril Doyle T.D., Chairperson of the Government's Famine Commemoration Committee, with the assistance of the Office of Public Works, in co-operation with Mayo Co. Council, Westport Historical Society and the Murrisk community. The site was made available by Mr. James Fair, in honour of his parents Seamus and Brigid., Arna choimisiunú ag an Aire Stait; Aibhreal Uí Dhubnghaill, Cathaoirleach Choiste an Rialtais um Chuimhneachán ar an nGorta Mór, le cabhair ó Oirig na nOibreacha Poiblí, i gcomhar le Comhairle Chontae Mhaigh Eo, Cumann Staire Chathair na Mart agus pobal Mhuraisc, Séamus Mac Finn a chuir an láithreán ar fáil in ómós dá thuismitheoirí, Séamus agus Bríd..
