Calvert's Arkansas Battery
Two 6 pdrs., Two 12-pdr. Howitzers.
Maj. T. R. Hotchkiss' Artillery Battalion.
Cleburne's Division.
1st Lieut. Thomas J. Key Commanding.
1st Lieuts. R. Fitzpatrick and W. M. Hopwood.
2d Lieut. J. G. Marshall.

Nov. 25th, 1863. Noon

The battery occupied a position over the railroad tunnel during the fighting of the morning, and with its rapid and accurate firing aided in keeping its front clear of the assaulting lines of the enemy.

About noon, by order of Gen. Cleburne the battery held this position with Lieut. Key in command of his own and a section of Sweet's Battery; without epaulments or other shelter taking an active part in repulsing the repeated and persistent assaults of the enemy, standing to their post, with the enemy nearly at the muzzles of their pieces.

Gen. Cleburne says the batteries at this point were bravely fought and did great execution, After dark the battery with its battalion withdrew unmolested across the Chickamauga.

Casualties: No guns or material; men and horses not reported.

Erected 1890 by the Chickamauga-Chattanooga National Battlefield Commission. (Marker Number MT-401.)

in the Sherman Reservation it cannot be reached by car and can only be reached by foot. I would suggest parking your car in the provided parking area on Lightfoot Mill Road and then walking north on the Sherman Reservation footpath that begins near the corner of North Crest Road and Lightfoot Mill Road. The path goes up the slope of the hill, through a wooded area, and emerges on a hill top clearing, where the historic marker is located.
