1. Colonial Road Marker

Inscription. This crossroad is the ancient Dumfries-Winchester highway. Over it William Fairfax accompanied George Washington, then a lad of sixteen, on his first visit to Lord Fairfax at Greenway Court. It was on this occasion that Washington assisted in surveying the Fairfax Grant.

Erected 1929 by Conservation & Development Commission. (Marker Number C-29.)

2. Colonial Road Marker

Photographer is standing on the ancient Dumfries-Winchester colonial highway looking east at the intersection with the old Warrenton Pike of Civil War fame. Marker is hiding behind the route signs on today's Colonial Road. The road continuing the old highway across the intersection is Dumfries Road (Local Route 605).
