Marker is at the intersection of County Road 44 and County Road 51, on the left when traveling west on County Road 44. Regarding Hastings Mine Explosion. 12 miners were also killed at the Hastings mine in 1912, caused by an explosion of gas due to a defective lamp. During the time period 1896 – 1917, there were at least 181 mine fatalities at the Hastings mine.
