1. Croatan Normal School Marker
Inscription. Established in 1887 to educate teachers of Indian youth. It was the forerunner of UNC-Pembroke. Building was 2/10 mile east.

2. Croatan Normal School Marker
to Pembroke State College for Indians. Until 1953, it was the nation’s only state-supported four-year college for Indians. Following the 1954 Supreme Court's school desegregation decision, the trustees opened the college to all applicants. After the General Assembly established the sixteen-campus University of North Carolina in 1972, the school became known as the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.” (Submitted on March 24, 2017.)
