Inscription. 20th Battery, Ohio Light Artillery.
4 3" Rifles, 2 Napoleons.
Dodge's Brigade, Johnson's Division, McCook's Corps.
September 19, 1863
Captain Edward Grosskopff, Commanding.
The Battery with its Brigade left Catlett's Gap early in the morning and reached the battlefield via Crawfish Spring soon after noon. About 1 p.m. the Brigade as the reserve of the Division moved to the front into action. The Battery opened fire, but endangering the Union lines it was ordered to the rear. The Battery remained in position in the rear till about 5 p.m., when it moved forward to a clearing and thence to this position and opened on the enemy. Afterwards, as night had set in, the Battery fell back to the before mentioned clearing, but was again ordered to change position farther to the rear. In the act of carrying out this order the Battery received a cross fire from the enemy, wounding one man and several horses. Soon after the Battery joined the 5th Indiana Battery, and after the firing had ceased encamped in the Kelly field in rear of the Brigade.

This tablet is located in the national park that preserves the site of the Chickamauga Battlefield. The tablet is located along a park hiking trail that runs through a section of wooded park land, off the southwest corner of the intersection of Alexanders Bridge Road and Brotherton Road.
