This structure contained a number of small pens, each just large enough for housing a sow (mother hog) and her piglets. Once the baby pigs had grown to such size and strength that they needed more space and could survive somewhat on their own, the small pens would have been disassembled providing larger areas for the hogs in general. A door in the back of the building allowed the hogs to come and go as they wished. An aerial photo from the 1950s shows a well worn path to a low, wet spot in the pasture behind the shed — obviously a favorite location for all the hogs to wallow in cooling mud.
