From the glade about 1250 yards northeast of this the brigade moved to the assistance of Gist’s brigade then assaulting the Union left. Before reaching Gist’s brigade Gist had been repulsed. The left regiment of Liddell’s struck the log works on the Union left and was repulsed. The right continued to press the Union line across the open field south of McDonnell’s and crossing the Lafayette road about 480 yards north of this continued its circular movement and swung into the Union rear at this point at 12:30 P.M. Being isolated and it’s left enfiladed and overlapped the brigade retired by the right flank westward and northward to this position from which it had advanced.
