The brigade moved about 5 P.M. from the Glade 700 yards east of the Lafayette road with Walthall’s brigade on its right meeting with no opposition until it reached this position. Here it was exposed to severe artillery fire from both flanks and after a short interval Turchin’s union brigade withdrawing from the south end of the Kelly field burst out of the woods west of the Lafayette road and charged along the front of the brigade and forced it to withdrawal in considerable confusion to the woods east of the road. From this point it advanced to the vicinity of the McDonald house in bivouacked.
