Location. 34° 55.791′ N, 85° 13.2′ W. Marker is near Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, in Catoosa County. It is on Reeds Bridge Road east of Canon Drive, on the left when traveling east. The marker is located outside of the Chickamauga Battlefield NMP along Reeds Bridge Road just west of the Chickamauga Creek. Touch for map. More about this marker. According to the description information provided by the National Park Service, the monument is, “2'6" x 1'2" x 2'6" high rectangular slab of dark Quincy granite. Rock-faced sides; polished & inscribed front. "Illinois" is in large raised letters on beveled top. Marks unit's position from 6:00 p.m. 9/18/1863 to 7:00 a.m. 9/19/1863.”
