De Burcht, also, The Castle. Plantage aan het Water. De Burcht is in 1900 gebouwd naar ontwerp van H.P. Berlage in opdracht van de roemruchte Algemeene Nederlandsche Diamantbewerkersbond. Met het gebouw wilde ANDB-voorzitter Henri Polak (1868-1943) een monument voor de arbeidersbeweging tot stand brengen. Veel kunstenaars leverden een bijdrage aan de verfraaiing. Een schitterend trappenhuis, originele stijlkamers, muurschilde-ringen, reliëfs en glas-in-loodramen zijn nog in hun volle pracht te bewonderen. Nu is hier De Burcht gevestigd: centrum voor debat en educatie op het gebied van arbeidsverhoudingen., , The Burcht (the Castle) was built in 1900 based on a design by H.P. Berlage and commissioned by the legendary - General Dutch Diamondworkers Union (ANDB). ANDB chairman Henri Polak (1868-1943) wanted to build a monument for the labour movement. Many artists provided contributions to the decoration of the building. The beautiful staircase, original period rooms, murals, reliefs and stained-glass windows can still.be admired in their original glory. Nowadays, the Burcht houses a centre for debate and education in the field of labour relations with the same name.
