1. The Moravians Marker
In 1741, the Moravians, or the Unitas Fratrum, settled in Bethlehem Pa. Other settlements were founded in Lehigh, Northampton, & Lancaster Counties. Although they immigrated [from] Germany, & settled among other Germans in Pa., they never considered themselves Pa. Dutch. Although their manner of dress & way of life would have fit into the Plain World, their joyous religious celebrations, especially at Christmas, set them apart. They combined aspects of both Plain & Gay Dutch.
