1. Edward Mayberry Mobley Marker
Inscription. In 1862 Mobley organized volunteers from Hagerstown to serve in the Civil War, forming Co. A, 7th Maryland Infantry (US). He served as its captain. He was promoted to major in January, 1864 and commanded the regiment in numerous battles. on August 18, 1864, the regiment was engaged in fierce fighting at the battle of Weldon Railroad, Virginia. The entire color guard was shot down. In an act of conspicuous bravery, Mobley received a serious neck wound while saving his regiment's flag from capture by the rebels. his heroism earned commendations from his superiors in their official reports. Mobley commanded the regiment at the surrender of lee's army, and he was promoted to Brevet Colonel in 1865 for meritorious service.
