Before You Step Back in Time...
Though Le Village historique acadien is a created outdoor museum, it speaks to truths about the overall Acadian experience in Nova Scotia, and to the particular life and times of the Pubnicos in the early 1900s. Here are a couple of aspects to keep in mind during your visit.
A Bond with the Sea
The seaside setting to your right is more than beautiful; it's a watery highway from which this community has long derived much of its livelihood. Exploring, fishing, settling, shipbuilding, trading — the coast and its offshore resources led our ancestors to put down roots in this area. Much the same relationship keeps us here today. For despite all the changes across four centuries, the ocean and the inter-tidal zone remain at the economic heart of the Pubnico community. Nature provides the bounty we harvest and safeguard.

Une foi nourrissante
Partout où les Acadiens s'établirent durant les années suivant la déportation, l'église catholique romaine fut importante. Typiquement, les prêtres et les religieuses furent des forces en éducation, en développement économique, en santé et bien-être et en solidarité communautaire. La première église à Pubnico-Ouest fut complétée en 1815. Elle était non loin d'ici, un peu en dehors des limites du Village. Elle fut remplacée en 1840 par une nouvelle église érigée dans la région du cimetière qui se trouve de l'autre côté du chemin de l'entrée du Village.
