1. Sugar Maple Marker
Inscription. One of the oldest trees on the estate, this giant sugar maple was planted in the late 1800s by General William Tecumseh Sherman, a friend of James Pinchot and frequent house guest. We don't tap this tree, but did you know it takes 32 - 40 gallons of sap to make 1 gallon of pure maple syrup?
 
Erected by Grey Towers National Historic Site.

Location. Marker has been permanently removed. It was located near 41° 19.674′ N, 74° 49.178′ W. Marker was near Milford, Pennsylvania, in Pike County. It was in Milford Township. It could be reached from Pinchot Court. Marker and tree were on the grounds of Grey Towers National Historic Site. The tree, noted sickly in the photo, died and was cut down by the USFS staff.
