Dutton House

Built in 1782 by Salmon Dutton, this housethe first dwelling brought to the Museumwas dismantled and moved from Cavendish, Vermont, in 1950. Dutton, who emigrated from Massachusetts, was a surveyor, town official, and toll road owner. His descendants occupied the house until 1900, adding wings for a store, inn, and housing for mill workers.
Today the house is furnished based on an 1824 probate inventory of the household contents when owner Salmon Dutton died.
