1. Stagecoach Inn Marker
Inscription. Hezekiah Barnes, a U.S. militia captain turned road surveyor, strategically located his inn and trading post in Charlotte on opposite sides of the main stage route from Montreal. Built in the Georgian style, the exterior of the inn features symmetrically spaced windows flanking a central door with sidelights, and a broad wrap-around porch. The interior contains a second-story ballroom and ten fireplaces.

The Stagecoach Inn showcases the Museum's collection of American folk art, including weathervanes, trade signs, tobacconist's figures, ship carvings, and folk art paintings.

A special exhibition of highlights and masterworks from the Museum's decoy collection features works by some of America's most noteworthy carvers.
