A detachment of the battery, under Lieut. Christopher C. Scott served one 3-inch rifle in this position, Third Louisiana Redan, from May 18 to the end of the defense, July 4, 1863. Casualties in battery during the defense: killed 4, wounded 5. Total 9, Capt. William N. Hogg and Lieut. Robert S. Walker killed: Lieut. Christopher C. Scott wounded on duty in this position, June 25.

the Battle of Chickasaw Bayou, this unit was attached to Brigadier General Louis Hθbert’s Brigade of Major General Dabney H. Maury’s Division, Major General's. Martin Luther Smith’s (until 30 Dec 1862) and Carter L. Steven’s 2d Military District in Lt. General. John C. Pemberton’s Department of Mississippi and East Louisiana, and commanded by Captain William M. Hogg.

The regiment was later assigned to Brigadier General Louis Hθbert’s Brigade of Major Geeral John H. Forney’s Division, Lt. General John C. Pemberton’s Army of Vicksburg and was commanded by Captain William M. Hogg, Lieutenant Christopher C. Scott and Lieutenant Robert N. Cotten.

The 5th Arkansas Field Battery was originally referred to as the Appeal Artillery or the Memphis Appeal Battery.
