Trucks and automobiles gradually replaced pack trains, ore wagon and stagecoaches.
This building is a CCC vintage icehouse. In the town of Custer, icehouses and root cellars stored meats, vegetables and other perishables. Ice was harvested during the winter months, covered and layered with sawdust and stored for use during the summer months.
