This unit was attached to Brigadier General Hugh Ewing's 3d Brigade, of Major General Francis P. Blair's 2d Division, Major General's William T. Sherman's and Frederick Steele's XV Army Corps, and commanded by Lt. Colonel Louis Von Blessingh (wounded 22 May 1863), Major Charles Hipp, and Colonel Edward Siber.
