1. Maria Dolores (Lola) Binnard, circa 1910 Marker

Inscription. Maria Dolores (Lola) Urquides was born to Jesus and Adelaida Urquides on October 8, 1882. She married Daniel H. Binnard in 1902, but he died suddenly in 1915 and Lola moved back to 115 Main Street to care for her aging father until his death in 1928.

Following her father’s request, she continued to manage and maintain Urquides Village eventually transforming it from workers’ quarters to retiree cottages. In 1947 the Idaho Statesman characterized Urquides Village as a “famous campsite” that now provided a “bachelor’s haven” of bungalows for a tight community of retirement.

Until the day of her death, September 7, 1965, Lola promoted the village as a tourist attraction. She gave historical tours, recounted personal recollections and stirring accounts of her father’s adventures as a packer, miner and participant in the Indian Wars.

Daniel and Lola were married on 3 July 1902 at Boise. For a few years they ran a grocery store in Ontario, Oregon, but by 1911 they were back in Boise, where Daniel resumed work as a traveling salesman. He died suddenly of a cerebral hemorrhage at the Lincoln Inn in Gooding, Idaho on 3 December 1915. Lola lived in Boise the rest of her life. The 1918 city directory shows her working as a stenographer in the State Land Department. In 1920, still a stenographer, she lived with her parents at 115 Main.
