Inscription. Knox’s able direction of the assembly and deployment of artillery in the Siege was a key element in the success of the Allied armies. He saw resulting victory, as he related in a note to his wife, as “A great moment for America.”

Brigadier General Henry Knox established his headquarters near the American Artillery Park. Here, the artillery were repaired and stored until needed on the siege lines.

4. Grand American Battery

Knox supplied the guns used at the Grand American Battery. Part of the Second Allied Siege Lines, this battery was set up after the taking of Redoubts 9 and 10 on October 14, 1781.
