1. The Dalles Garage Marker

Inscription. Father Nooy, a Catholic priest, and Jack Frank built The Dalles Garage in 1920. In 1922, the Columbia River Highway (U.S. Highway 30) was completed and ran in front of the garage, then known as Lester’s Garage. The building was next occupied by Pacific Power and Light, before the utility company relocated to the Commodore building at Third and Court streets. Still later, the structure housed the General Auto Supply.
This one-story, painted, concrete building has a rectangular plan. There is a canopy over the angled corner for an automobile entry that formerly led to a gas pump island.
