Regarding Vasco de Quiroga.
Vasco de Quiroga (1470-1565) was the first bishop of Michoacแn, Mexico. He is remembered for his support of the rights of indigenous peoples. There are some who believe that he may have visited the area that would eventually become the town of Salamanca prior to his death, although not before its definite establishment on January 1, 1603, as he died in 1565.
