This 2014 marker from the Guatemalan Ministry of Sports and Culture (Ministerio de Deportes y Cultura) is a decree (189-2014) noting the historical significance of Guatemala City's Civic Center and that it is worthy of future conservation and protection. This marker is directly to the left of the Arévalo marker and bust.

Juan José Arévalo was the first democratically elected president of Guatemala. It is said that his presidency survived some 25 coup attempts. He served until 1951 and stepped down after finishing his term, passing the presidency to the democratically elected Jacobo Árbenz.
