War of the Revolution

Appointed, in 1792, on Washington's
recommendation, General-in-Chief
of the U.S. Army

In 1794, vanquished the Indian tribes of the
Northwest, ensuring the safe settlement of
Northwestern Pennsylvania and Northern Ohio.
Died at Erie, PA., Dec. 15, 1796
