Sierra Gorda Historical Museum
This construction was built on 1576 under the rule of the Viceroy Martín Enríquez de Almanza, which makes it one of the oldest buildings in Jalpan. It was used as prison for more than 50 years, and further in time it was a military fortress. On august 1991, the Sierra Gorda Historical Museum was founded, showing the artistic, historical and cultural inheritance of the area. The eight exhibition rooms show the richness and diversity offered by the Sierra Gorda. One of them is dedicated to the Sierra Gorda's Biosphere Reserve and works as an interactive room; another one shows the importance of the Franciscan Missions. All the others exhibit pieces from the prehistoric period up to Reformation, including México's conquest and other historic movements. Also there are diverse engravings and objects displaying the current Sierra culture.

Museum doors open from Tuesday till Sunday from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm and from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
