1. Morgan's Headquarters Marker
Inscription. This house, built 1832, owned in 1863 by Col. Robert Buckner, War of 1812 veteran, was headquarters, July 7-8, of CSA General J.H. Morgan. Raiders crossing river on captured steamers interrupted as US gunboat ELK arrived. They exchanged fire and then ELK retired, ammunition exhausted. After crossing river, CSA burned steamer ALICE DEAN. Hulk at river bottom to the west.
