Former actress and Naval Reserve Lieutenant Jr. Grade, Frances Rich, sculpted this Tennessee marble statue representing “The Spirit of Nursing” in 1937.

5. Army, Navy and Air Force Nurses Monument
When this monument was dedicated in 1938 in honor of WW 1 nurses, its inscription read “Army and Navy Nurses.” In 1970 Navy Captain Delores Cornelius, the Deputy Director of the Navy Nurse Corps had the current plaque placed on the monument.
