Regarding Filomeno Mata. Filomena Mata started his newspaper, "El Diario del Hogar" here in 1881. It was a folksy newspaper at first, with sections on food, recipes and the home. Over time it acquired a political tone in opposition to the numerous reelections of Porfirio Díaz as President of Mexico. Mata was jailed numerous times and continued his paper up until his death at the beginning of the Mexican Revolution in 1911.
