The West Headquarters Building
This building is thought to have been the administrative headquarters of the west compound. It was divided internally into six rooms probably with arched openings between them. The room in the centre at the back of the building could have been a shrine, the focus of religious life in the garrison. From this room, steps led down to an underground chamber, which is thought to have been a strong-room where the soldiers pay would have been kept.
Later additions made to the building included a range of rooms on the north side, a new entrance hall on the east front, and a small room with underfloor heating (hypocaust) at the west end of the new north range.
