Gannongarae
The country of the Sonnontouans, which is much the most fertile and populous of the cantons of the Iroquois, contains two very large towns and a number of lesser villages, besides a town of the Hurons named St. Michel, who took refuge there in order to escape the common calamity of their nation. These Hurons, who have preserved their customs and particular habits, live separate from the Iroquois, and content themselves with being one with them in good feeling and friendship.

...I set forth to take possession of the Mission of Saint Michel, in a Village called Gandagarae. Our best Christian, Francois Tehoronhiongo, came to mmeet me, and conducted me into one of the finest cabins of the Village - belonging to one of the most influential men, although an unbeliever...the Sunday after all Saints' Day, the chapel being ready, I invited all our Savages to come and pray to God there, and those who were Christians to be present at the Mass that I would celebrate there early in the morning.
