Inscription.

————————————
This site has played a key role in Canadian maritime history as a major pilot station and navigational light. Here, where the Gulf narrows to the St. Lawrence River, was the point where inbound vessels took on a river pilot. Because of its importance to river navigation, Pointe-au-Père has been the location of four lighthouses. The first was built in 1859 and destroyed by fire in 1867.

Its successor, a three-storey frame house with a lantern on the roof, was replaced by this reinforced concrete structure in 1909. The fourth lighthouse, a beacon placed atop a skeleton tower, came into operation when the station was automated in 1975.
