According to the National Register nomination and New Orleans architectural historian Samuel Wilsons work (he conducted the eight year restoration), Texada was constructed between 1793 and 1805; due to the sparse and conflicting records of the Spanish Colonial period, it is impossible to be more precise in identifying Texadas construction date. Manuel Garcia de Texada (originally de Tejada) arrived in the New World as a Spanish subject during the American Revolution, serving under Bernardo de Gαlvez. By June 1782, he had arrived in Natchez and was serving as mayordomo of the Natchez Royal Hospital. In 1798, he acquired and expanded a prominent brick building in the city in which his tenants ran a variety of businesses, including the American Eagle Tavern.
