Location. 58° 57.438′ N, 3° 18.065′ W. Marker is in Stromness, Scotland, in Orkney. It is at the intersection of S End and Mayburn Court, on the left when traveling south on S End. Surgeon and physician Sir John Login was entrusted with the guardianship of 10-year old Maharajah Duleep Singh, who became goverenor of the Citadel of Lahore, India, after the death of his father and the Anglo-Sikh Wars.
He was charged with cataloguing the treasuries of the Sikh government, including the Koh-i-Noor diamond. One of the largest in the world, ceded to Queen Victoria after the British conquest of the Punjab in 1849. The Koh-i-Noor diamond is now part of the British Crown Jewels. Touch for map.
